Kohko Saito Memorial Hall

She was a poetess likened Takuboku, also well known as a poet, and her writings left by the deceased are displayed at this memorial hall. Beside this hall, a monument inscribed with a poem was built by the interested local people. She said on the monument, "When I turned off the light of a candle, I can smell the mountains. Oh, I have come so far to this place from my birthplace."

Kohko Saito

1900-36. She was born in Isurugi Shiwa Iwate (now, Yahabacho).
In the period of a poor crop, she devoted her life to the school education in remote rural areas and even in the hard days she wrote more than 1000 poems with sadness. She left a book of her writings left by the deceased. She died suddenly when she was a teacher of Etsunagi elementary school in Kawai village.
